What is the TOPIK?

The TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) was established in 1997 by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED), a branch of South Korea’s Ministry of Education.

Its purpose is to assess a learner’s skills in reading, listening, and writing, and it is mainly intended for non-native speakers such as international students, overseas Koreans, and immigrants who wish to demonstrate their Korean language ability.

The TOPIK exam is divided into two main sections: TOPIK I for beginners and TOPIK II for intermediate to advanced learners.

TOPIK I covers levels 1 and 2, while TOPIK II includes levels 3 through 6. After completing the test, candidates are awarded a proficiency level from 1 to 6, depending on their overall score.
