School Trip to China || When Ancona Came to Beijing (Again!)

3 Teachers, 10 Days, 17 Students + A Whole Lot of Fun

Lex the Lion

In April 2024, we welcomed Istituto d’istruzione Superiore Savoia Benincasa to LTL for the third time.

Our friends from Ancona previously studied with us in Beijing during 2019, and then again in 2023 to LTL Taipei.

With our friendship blossoming further, we welcomed them back again during the Spring time of 2024 – taking advantage of the two-week visa-free travel Italians get to Mainland China.

In this post, we briefly explain their time with us, share some of our favourite pictures, and show you exactly what they got up to.

Ancona to Beijing - A long journey
Ancona to Beijing – not a short trip!

Every school trip is different, so we spend the months before speaking with the school to get everything in place.

This particular trip lasted ten days.

DID YOU KNOW || Typically groups like to come over for a minimum of days given the long flight.

In fact, school trips at LTL can last any length of time. The longest we’ve hosted to date is 21 days.

During the ten days, our students from Ancona came to LTL Beijing to study Chinese for four hours.

After this, we go for lunch together, and then in the afternoon engage in some form of outdoor activity.

We also organised a day trip to the Great Wall on Sunday – an absolute must-visit for any student coming to Beijing 😁

Here is how their schedule looked in full.

The program included 28 hours of Chinese, 7 after-class activities and 2-day trips.

Aside from visiting Beijing’s best tourist spots, we also organised some challenges for the students to practice using their Mandarin.

During our tour of the hutong’s we prepared a picture challenge to put them to the test. They passed with flying colours 🏆

We always find students love getting stuck into a bit of cooking as well, so we prepared a dumpling workshop which is a skill hopefully they will take back with them to Italy.

Ancona School Trip || Travel

Beijing has a wealth of things to see and do.

When preparing for the school trip we make sure our friends from Italy can tick off as many of these famous hot spots as possible.

Trips included:

  • A day in the Summer Palace
  • An afternoon at the Lama Temple
  • An afternoon at the 798 Art District
  • Tian’anmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven
  • A day trip to the Great Wall of China

We packed in as much as we could, so the students went back to Italy as tired, but fulfilled as possible 😉
