Where better to learn Chinese than on the streets of Beijing?
That is exactly what the Beijing Safari program is for. Learn how to order your favourite dish at a restaurant, learn how to buy pair of shoes you love and learn how to get your train ticket to see the Terracotta Warriors. There is no better place to study and immerse yourself in Mandarin than on the streets of Beijing.
Your Chinese teacher will accompany you at all times. They are experienced around the City and know exactly where to go and will make sure your current Mandarin level is catered for.
A Beijing Safari lesson is split into 3 parts:
Warm up – Your Chinese teacher will explain what you aim to achieve in the upcoming lesson. This will include understanding any vocabulary and sentence structure needed.
The Safari – Go and explore the streets of Beijing and put that Chinese into practice. Overall there are twenty different Safari scenarios to enjoy.
Cool Down – Any questions? Any issues? Everything will be reviewed in the cool down including any new vocabulary you may have picked up along the way.
IMPORTANT – Our Beijing Safari is a 1-on-1 course upgrade. To book this course, you must first choose a program that includes at least 10 hours a week of individual classes. After this, you may then upgrade those hours of class to Beijing Safari.

Full time classes take place at our Chinese Learning Centre in the heart of the CBD in Beijing.
We are located near Da Wang Lu which is Line 1 and 14 of the Beijing Metro.
Do I have just one teacher?
On some occasions yes, on others no but we do ask if you have a preference please do tell us.
We will strive to provide what you prefer. This will depend on your current ability and teacher availability. Whether you have 1 or 3 teachers, this won’t make a difference to your progress.
All teachers meet and discuss classes so you will not cover the same topics twice. In Chengde as we have fewer teachers it maybe a tad tricky to provide to your preference but we will do our utmost to help.
Surely I’ll meet more people with group classes?
Although group students get to know their classmates our individual students don’t remain without friends! Absolutely not.
The LTL Lunch Club and Social events are the real times to socialise and get to know each other. Most of our students take up individual courses and the friendships they build are outside of the classroom. Do not let this put you off. Your progress will be quicker learning individually and this is ultimately why you come to LTL.
That said, if you are keen on a group option on a lesser budget then our budget Chinese course might be an ideal option for you.
How do I sign up?
Speak to our Student Advisor by opening a live chat on this page or hit the Contact Us button above. We look forward to you joining the LTL Community.
Can I learn faster on my own than groups?
Yes you will.
With the individual class everything is up to you. If you want to learn quicker, you can. If you want to learn more speaking over writing, you can. With groups the teachers have a number of students to cater for. Individual classes make quicker progress.
Is six hours a day of Chinese too much?
On the face of it 6 hours can sound a lot of time to study a new language but we assure you it will not feel this way.
Our lessons are planned to be fun and informative. You will generally build a solid rapport with your teacher meaning you often become friends. This takes the learning element away some what.
You will also find with 6 hours per day your Chinese ability rockets pretty high, pretty quickly.
"This is the third time I take Chinese classes at LTL. I can honestly say that LTL is the best of language schools. The private lessons are tailored to my specific needs. They opened a branch in Taipei, that’s my next destination."
I found LTL from an online search, I was looking at LTL and Mandarin House. I think I preferred the website and the classes seemed more flexible, more of a tailored program with 1 on 1 and group, plus the safari option.
Ireally like the page about the Chengde immersion it made the company sound really innovative. Then I came and met Alice last year and she gave me a lot of reassurance.
I was worried about going to the Homestay because it would be like being a 43 year old baby in a Chinese house. It was like jumping in the deep end, but they were really friendly and made me feel really welcome. It was lovely.
Martin at LTL Beijing
I thought I’d be on my own but there was another student in the Homestay, which I really liked. The homestay was really nice, being in a non-tourist area of Beijing, the food was amazing.
The grandparents were there most evenings so you felt like you were really part of a Beijing family which is much nicer than just being sat by yourself in a hotel room.
I’d definitely do the Homestay again.
My teachers at LTL were Jacqueline and Serena. It was a really good mix because Jacqueline focused on speaking then Serena then focused on grammar.
They were both fantastic and I was really lucky to have them. I also really appreciated Ruth putting me at a higher level than I thought because it pushed me to work harder. The language assessment was great.
Then I had Safari classes with Sunny which was useful but makes you realise that textbook Chinese is very different to real Chinese. I can’t quite believe how much I’ve improved in two weeks. That’s not because I’m amazing it’s because of the quality of the teaching.
The roast duck night out was lovely, all the things put on for the students are great. I’ll definitely come back to LTL.
My name is Sara and I am from Italy. Last July I graduated studying foreign languages so that’s why I’m decided to come to Beijing.
I found LTL on the internet while I was searching for the best school for learning Chinese. With a simple request of information, in no time I found myself in one of the most beautiful cities in the world and experiencing something truly wonderful. LTL offers a variety of possibilities, and manages to adapt to the language needs of every single student. From the start I was never alone, my point of contact Alex, explained everything to me to put me at ease. He helped me to prepare all necessary documentation.
Taking the Beijing Metro
After arriving in Beijing, my pick-up brought me to my apartment. I chose a large room with private bathroom. My room was beautiful and large. I had a breathtaking view of the city of Beijing.
On the Monday after my arrival I went to school to do my first lesson, the school building was very easy to find. As soon as I opened door of the school, I was very happy to see everything come to life after viewing LTL the internet before. The school is really nice and comfortable. When I’m there I feel at home. School members have became my family in China.
There are several classrooms for group lessons and for 1 to 1 classes. I chose to do lessons 1 to 1, my teacher was Jacqueline. I remember the day of my first lesson. I felt nervous, I could not understand everything she was telling me, and I thought I could not do it. But over time I saw and heard my improvements, because here you have the possibility to practice the language, to live the language.
Enjoying a break after studying Chinese
I studied two hours of lessons per day and studied hard outside of class. The schedules are flexible and I could make up the lost classes simply by reaching agreement with my teacher. Jacqueline is very flexible. The school gave me all the materials needed to study such as grammar books, exercise books, CD’s and so on.
My main goal was to reach HSK4. The teaching method is nothing like the ones I have encountered so far, the lessons with Jacqueline are intense. I spoke only in Chinese (it is crucial if you want to learn a language). Before moving on to the next topic she made sure that all my skills (listening, writing and speaking) were on the same level. We had a continuous interaction, a continuous exchange of information, questions and answers and written topics to get to know each other better and to learn other Chinese characters.
In eight weeks I came a long way. I started from not understanding almost anything to leading my lesson alone! I think that the teaching method really makes the difference. My experience here was perfect to say the least, it seemed they always knew me, and I must thank LTL school, in particular my teacher. Thanks to her I now believe in myself and thanks to her I speak and I understand Chinese.
Sara on the Great Wall
In addition to the lessons, the school organizes various activities to discover this beautiful city every day. LTL for me was not just a school, it was a bridge that allowed me to get to know new people who I can now call my friends. It allowed me to understand a wonderful culture. It was the right choice for achieve my goals. Even 3,000 miles away from my hometown, it was able to make me feel at home!
It seems impossible but in a few weeks I gained the confidence to do anything here, ask for information, take a taxi or order in Chinese! I think that as much as reviews can be useful, some experiences are to be done in person, so do not waste any time, come and live Chinese and let yourself be guided by this wonderful family!
I want to say thanks to LTL school, thanks to the staff and thanks to the teachers who, for two months, were my parents. Just as parents would do with their children, LTL held me by the hand and taught me to be independent in a city like Beijing!
I googled around for language schools in Beijing. I first looked at university programs but those weren’t flexible enough and they seemed too impersonal so I decided to look for a private language school. I decided on LTL due to the size and the reviews I read. It just seemed like a high quality school. The homestay component also helped sway my decision.
Originally I planned to just learn in Beijing and then hang around in Shanghai. But my parents convinced me to also do classes in Shanghai.
When I first arrived in China I had to adjust to the heat more than to the culture! By the time I arrived in Shanghai I was confident enough to make my own way from the airport to my homestay.
The Beijing homestay was fine. Very nice family they worked as reporters. We all ate dinner every night, and talked together it was very nice. They also always helped me out whenever I needed. They provided me with everything I needed.
The classes in Beijing and Shanghai were both great, nothing to complain about. Doing an individual class is great as you can learn about whatever you want to, or need to, at your own pace. I don’t really have the ability to memorise as well as other people, so having individual classes especially adapted to your own learning is extra valuable.
Both Beijing and Shanghai had their advantages. The cultural activities and sights in Beijing are more authentic and there is more of them which I enjoyed. While Shanghai is more liveable, feels less crowded and has more western food options.
I’m glad I chose LTL and I would recommend it to others! My goal was to improve my language skills as an advanced student. After using Chinese in an academic setting for a few years, I found that some other aspects of my language skills regressed, and I chose LTL to help me reach my goals.
After four months of one-on-one classes (2 hr/day) with two different teachers (one for speaking and one for reading/writing), I greatly increased my vocabulary, I have more confidence speaking Mandarin, and I can discuss a broad range of topics beyond my academic interests. One of my teachers helped me improve my writing skills by giving me feedback on weekly essay assignments that I did. I also studied for and took the HSK 6 during my time at LTL.
Additionally, even though I’ve been in China for 4.5 years, I found that my studies at LTL– particularly the many discussions I had with my teachers on a range of topics– not only improved my language skills but also increased my understanding of cultural nuances.
A few years ago I received a contemporary Chinese novel as a gift. At the time, although I could read it, I didn’t fully understand some of the colloquial phrases and cultural references in it, and I gave up about one-third of the way through. Thanks to LTL, I feel confident that I can read it with much greater comprehension, and I am eager to pick it up again.
I wish I had come to LTL sooner and I would recommend this school to other advanced students who want to take the next step in improving their language skills. I really appreciate the time I spent at LTL and want to say thank you to my fabulous teachers and to the staff!
My aims were to start to be able to speak Mandarin in daily life, expand my vocabulary and improve my grammar.
I found my Chinese 1-on-1 classes at LTL Beijing both challenging and very useful. Kathy was a very nice teacher.
Angelina enjoying Dinner with other students at LTL
We spoke a lot and I expanded my vocabulary significantly during my time at LTL Mandarin School.
I also finally managed to start to speak with locals in Chinese and managed to solve any problems and issues in Beijing using the Mandarin I had learnt at school. My grammar also got a lot better. I really liked the school and I am thinking about coming back at some point in the not too distant future.
Angelina from Belarus
This is already the third time I take Chinese classes at LTL in Beijing. What I appreciate the most about this school is the mix of both Chinese and foreign staff. This makes sure that the students’ many questions can be answered and all needs understood.
The private lessons are tailored to my specific needs and the teachers most competent.
I also very much enjoy the various social activities organised by LTL (e.g. pub quiz, dinner, massage).
This allows me to be in contact with other students despite taking private lessons. I have taken classes at several other Chinese languages schools and the past and can honestly say that LTL is the best of them all.
They recently opened a new branch in Taipei – and that’s definitely my next destination for learning Chinese.
Julia at LTL Beijing
I LOVE BEIJING! It’s great. An amazing place for speaking Mandarin.
The subway system is the easiest in the world and the food is great even though everyone in Germany told me it’s bad. They were not right!
I was very satisfied with the help I got from LTL including setting up my WeChat, my bank account and my SIM card. They solved all the questions I ever had.
My homestay was great and I could not have wished for a better one.
They were always talking to me in Chinese, made amazing food and were always very lovely.
I studied at LTL after my arrival in China, starting with 6 weeks of intensive classes at the school, which made my first weeks in Beijing interesting and exciting, enabling basic conversations with people I would meet in the city or while traveling.
Andreas, the school owner was a great source of inspiration during this harsh Beijing winter.
Then I started work and changed to 1 on 1 classes at my home. LTL and my teachers have shown great flexibility accommodating classes according to my busy work schedule.
I received high quality language classes covering written and oral Chinese with a textbook, but also long conversations about current events in China or around the world.
Being able to communicate in Chinese was one of the main factors that made me feel at home in Beijing and in China.
My special thanks go to my last teacher Nancy, who didn’t stop bringing Chinese culture to my home, challenging me to constantly improve, but also accepting my shortcomings. I couldn’t have wished for more.
